The three-day, old-world style fair includes authentic Italian food and other great dishes, free live entertainment, children’s activities, imported beer and wine, 30 local crafters, a Ferrari display, a Sunday Mass, and several contests. ‘This festival is a part of the history of Italian-Americans in Michigan and we are very excited to bring it back this year to Freedom Hill.’ ‘For more than 45 years, IACS has sponsored and produced Festa Italiana which raises money for the nonprofit cultural organization,’ festival chairman Joe Ventimiglia said in a news release. Now Freedom Hill is back in operation and the Italian American Cultural Society (IACS) has teamed up with Luna Hillside LLC, the new management firm for the county park, to set the stage for the festival’s return to Sterling Heights. Last year, the festival was conducted on the streets of downtown Mount Clemens. It’s a big homecoming for the popular ethnic festival, which traditionally had been held at Freedom Hill, but was forced to find a new home when the park closed a few years ago due to budget cuts. An ‘American Idol’ and the daughter of an entertainment legend are the featured performers marking the return of Festa Italiana to Freedom Hill County Park in Sterling Heights on the weekend of July 19-21.
